Education in Nauru is provided by the Nauru Ministry of Education. There are three levels of education available: primary, secondary, and higher education. Primary education consists of six years at a state-run school and is compulsory for all children aged 6 to 12. Secondary education is offered at two state-run high schools and one private school. Students may choose to pursue either a general or vocational track. Higher education is offered at the University of the South Pacific’s campus in Nauru, which offers degree programs in Business Administration, Information Technology, Education, and Nursing. The government also offers scholarships to students who wish to pursue higher education abroad. In addition, there are several private institutions offering courses in areas such as English language, hospitality management and IT studies. The literacy rate among adults in Nauru is estimated to be around 95%.
