Baton Rouge is the capital, but the largest and most famous city is New Orleans. It is therefore the most visited city in the entire state. North of New Orleans is beautiful Lake Pontchartrain. Many of the remaining lakes are close to the coast, making for a great view. By renting a car you can visit these lakes and the rest of the attractions with ease. Two universities are located in the capital. Louisiana State University and Southern University. As you drive on to New Orleans, there are a few must-sees you can’t forget. The Mississippi River plantation tour, St. John’s Cathedral in Downtown where the founder of the city is buried and the swamp tour where you can see alligators and herons.
