Along with South Carolina, North Carolina was part of the British colony “Carolina”, named after King Charles II of England. However, the division of the two colonies occurred in 1712. After the USA gained its independence in 1776, North Carolina became the 12th American state, on November 21, 1789.

The region is marked by flat terrain in its eastern part and quite rugged in the west. The state is famous for having a very treacherous coastline, giving it the title of Graveyard of the Atlantic. It has a temperate climate, with mild winters (average 9 ° C) and relatively hot summers (average 27 ° C).

As the State is the largest tobacco producer in the country, the manufacture of products derived from the plant is of great importance for the State. In addition, North Carolina also excels in the production of electronics, furniture, chemicals, textiles and food. The provision of personal and financial services, tourism and agriculture are other important sources of wealth for the State. The main ethnic groups present in the state are Americans, African Americans, Hispanics and Asians.
