Maryland Area Codes

Maryland was one of 13 colonies that rebelled against British rule; the state was the scene of numerous battles. Maryland is also known by the name “Old Line State”, precisely in honor of its “line troops” and its nationalist spirit, praised several times by George Washington.

Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in the United States, almost divides the state in half. Its climate is temperate, with milder temperatures in winter and a little warmer in summer, compared to other states in the region. This is due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The average temperature in Maryland is 27ºC in the summer and 1ºC in the winter.

The tertiary sector is responsible for 85% of the State’s GDP, with emphasis on community and personal services. Maryland’s financial, economic and cultural center is Baltimore, one of the country’s most important port hubs. The state capital is the city of Annapolis.
