Nokia C5-03 in the Practice Test

A full-featured Smartphone for less than 200 euros? Those who opt for the C5-03 has to live with compromises.

Nokia can be no slouch in terms of facilities and missed everything that you would expect from a Smartphone the C5-03. The Internet is available via Wi-FI (802 .11b / g) or via the mobile network via HSPA with theoreiisch up to 10 MBit / s in reception and 2 MBit / s for sending.

Also A GPS receiver to locate the C5-03 is on board, as well as Nokia’s successful software package for navigation and location based services. The focus is the free navigation software Ovi maps.

The maps for Germany, Austria and the Switzerland was on our device of test already on the enclosed with, 2 GB large MicroSD card preinstalled. In case of doubt, the cards can be for free download.

This works either via the mobile network with the cost estimated by the network operator for data transfer. Or something more elegant and completely free of charge via the computer at home.

To, the free software Ovi suite (our site) must be installed, which takes also care of synchronization of contacts and appointments or to update the phone software.

In addition to successful navigation, providing also a pedestrian mode, the application “Here and now” finds dieRestaurants in the menu, that provides film and event tips from the immediate vicinity or just the weather forecast for the current site. Also, is the GPS receiver when photographing used and provides the images upon request with the coordinates of the subject.

From the camera, one should expect but not too much. It is missing an Autfokus, as well as a photo light. After all: Very good snapshots succeed in ordinary light. The 5-megapixel camera with VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels), with 12 frames per second, but only records videos, which quickly leads to blurred pictures when taking panning.

Still, The equipment is remarkable given the cheap price and includes access to the Ovi store, where an ordentiche range of applications is in addition to the music player, FM radio, good organizer functions.

The Smartphone when handling and operation requires trade-offs. If too high, the 93 grams lightweight device offers a small resolution touch screen. The operation requires a good eye and targeted finger partially.

While the screen responds to pressure, does not understand on multitouch gestures and groans in our test under your finger. Even if the processing in order, the C5-03 leaves a rather cheap impression. In addition, that the S60 interface (50th Edition) does not consistently is optimized for touch screens. Without compromise isn’t at this price level.
